FAQs
What is the goal of this project?
The goal of this project is to promote electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Greater Victoria by enhancing access to Direct Current Fast Charging (Level 3) infrastructure. This initiative will help the City plan the installation of over 30 DCFCs over the next 5-6 years, moving towards its target of 30% renewable energy powered passenger vehicles by 2030 and 100% renewable energy powered passenger vehicles by 2050.
What issue is this project addressing?
In high-density areas, it can be a challenge to find convenient EV charging options, especially for those living in multi-unit residential buildings who often don’t have access to chargers at home. This project will address this issue by identifying the best locations to install Level 3 charging infrastructure, which can be used to quickly charge EVs while on-the-go.
Why has the City partnered with UVic and RRU?
The City has partnered with the University of Victoria and Royal Roads University to access MITACS grants and tap into the universities' research expertise. This partnership will help the City make evidence-based decisions related to EV infrastructure development.
How is the project being funded?
This project is being jointly funded by national research organization, MITACS, and the City of Victoria.
How will my feedback be used?
The survey findings will shape the City of Victoria's strategy for the expansion of EV Fast Charging infrastructure by ensuring it aligns with community needs and priorities.
