We all want getting around Victoria to be safe, easy and reliable. Our vision at the City of Victoria is to provide clean, seamless mobility options for everyone. To achieve this, we’re making investments to:
- Eliminate serious injuries and fatalities on our roads
- Provide more transportation choices
- Reduce barriers for people with disabilities
- Transform the public transit experience
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation
- And harness data and technology to improve safety and reliability for everyone
Some changes may impact the speed and convenience of getting around and require new habits and practices.
Over the next several years, residents will an increase in traffic calming, crosswalks, traffic signals, cycling infrastructure and other road safety initiatives. These investments benefit our economy, environment and community health.
Some projects will combine several changes like underground pipe work, road paving, traffic signals, crossing upgrades, bike lanes, landscaping and public seating. While big projects can be temporarily disruptive, they help to ensure the best value for public investment.
Infrastructure decisions are based on engineering best practices and standards, along with input from partners like Police, Fire and Ambulance, BC Transit and ICBC. We regularly collect data and feedback to understand where and how people are moving to improve safety, comfort and access.
City streets will continue to change to meet the diverse needs of our community today and in the future. Residents, commuters, and commercial operators can provide the City with valuable insights and share experiences to ensure changes meet the needs of the community.
