Which streets are the upgrades taking place on?

    • Bay Street (Tyee Road to Rock Bay Avenue)

    • Caledonia Avenue (Government Street to Chambers Street)

    • Cook Street (Tolmie Avenue to Haultain Street)

    • Pine Street (Craigflower Road to Dominion Road, plus a section on Hereward Road)

    • Selkirk Avenue (Arm Street to Styles Street)

    • Tolmie Avenue (Douglas Street to Jackson Street)

Watch the introduction video and check out the information sheets to learn more about each street before you provide input.

Why are you making upgrades? Why these six streets?

Each corridor has been flagged for a combination of underground, paving or traffic signal replacement work and the City is using the opportunity to delivery road safety, accessibility and placemaking improvements at the same time. Combining work helps to reduce overall impacts and costs.

When are these projects starting? How long will they take to complete?

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024 and some will extend into 2025. Note that all projects are subject to the financial planning process.

What are other considerations for the improvements? Restrictions?

Designs for each street will be based on public input, road width, access, safety considerations and their role in street network.

What if I don’t want to see changes to any of these streets?

We are not asking if we should make changes and invest in road safety. We are seeking community input on how the planned changes can best meet the needs of the community. These are already approved priorities and directions established in the Official Community Plan, Go Victoria, the Climate Leadership Plan and Council’s Strategic Plan. If you would like to provide input on the City's strategic priorities and investments you can find contact information for Mayor and Council here.

Are these the only six streets that will be upgraded next year?

No. While we are looking for feedback on these specific corridors, we will also continue to deliver improvements across the city including road paving, crosswalk upgrades, EV charging stations, traffic calming and more. For more information on large City-led roadwork projects visit victoria.ca/roadwork.

Will all the streets have bike lanes on them? Will they all be All Ages and Abilities routes?

No. Each corridor will have different designs based on public input, road width, access, safety considerations and role in street network. While some upgrades will progress towards the expanded AAA cycling network, not all cycling facilities will be AAA, and some work will be done in phases.

What’s the status on the AAA cycling network?

Adopted in 2016, the priority AAA cycling network is nearing completion, with construction underway in James Bay and on Fort Street. Construction on Gorge Road is anticipated to start this fall/winter with Pandora East planned for future years. Learn more at victoria.ca/cycling.

Does the Bay Street Project include improvements to the Bay Street Bridge?

No. The project only includes Tyee Road to Rock Bay Avenue. Upgrades to the bridge will be a future upgrade.

What will you do with my input?

Public input will be used to inform designs for each of the corridors. Staff will review all comments, questions and concerns and identify key themes and locations of interest.

Do I need to fill out the survey and use the mapping tool? Which one should I use?

You are welcome to fill out a survey for each of the corridors, for one of the corridors, or none. Same with the mapping tool. We are happy to have your input whichever method you choose. Or drop-in to one of our events.

How can I find out the results of the engagement?

SIgn up for project updates and we will email you updates once engagement has finished.

    When does engagement end?
